The Organizing Committee

PPN11-Jalès, First circular

Dear PPN Friends,

We are glad to announce that, as decided in the last meeting in Copenhagen, the next PPN conference will be held in France in 2025. The event promises to be exceptional, hosted by the French CNRS Archéorient laboratory in the Maison de l’Orient de la Méditerranée, renowned for its rich tradition in Neolithic studies.

We aim to organise the congress in the Ardèche region in southern France, close to the charming archaeological research centre of Jalès. Since J. Cauvin founded it in the 1980s, this centre has remained a cornerstone of Near Eastern studies at Archéorient and hosts several archaeological and experimental lithic collections.

The congress would take place in the Domaine Lou Capitelle, a facility offering conference rooms, catering/restaurant, a bar, a spa, a pool, and accommodation. The location is readily accessible from various French airports, with Lyon International Airport being the most convenient. From Lyon, transportation to the conference venue is straightforward, with options including trains, cars, and buses.

We are organising group transportation with several buses departing from Lyon city centre to facilitate your travel to the conference venue. Please let us know if you are interested in this option or if you would prefer to make your own travel arrangements.

Here is the preliminary schedule:

– November 10 (Afternoon/Evening): Bus transfer from Lyon to the conference venue (2.5 hours)

– November 11-14: PPN Conference with talks, lectures, and flint knapping sessions in between the Domaine Lou Capitelle and Jalès.

– November 15: Bus transfer back to Lyon (2.5 hours)

The cost for each participant is 500 euros. The fee includes five-night accommodation, all meals, and access to conference facilities (conference rooms, restaurants, a bar, spa, pool, and various activities).

Additionally, there will be a conference registration fee of 120 euros, though students are exempt from this fee. We are also exploring the possibility of offering grants to waive this fee for researchers with limited travel budgets (please contact us for more information).

We kindly ask you to confirm if the proposed dates (10th-15th of November 2025) suit you as we need to estimate the total number of participants by early-middle October.

We look forward to welcoming you to what promises to be an enriching and memorable conference.

Best regards,

The Organzing Comittee
